What
is the Ultimate Mini Challenge?
Mini Challenge is a gathering of street and race Classic Minis
and New MINIs to be held at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in Rockton,
IL, as part of the national "Mini Meet West Meets East"
celebration. There have been two previous Mini Challenge races,
both at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway near Monterey, CA, in 2001 and
2003. Mini Mania is excited to bring the Challenge to the Mini
Meet for the "Mid-America Showdown"!
What
does it mean to have my car "race prepared"?
All race cars in the Ultimate Mini Challenge must have the following
safety equipment installed:
- Five-point
driver's harness
- Roll bar
or cage
- Window
nets
- Driver's
fire suit, gloves and helmet
- Fire extinguisher
in the car
In
addition, all drivers must have a valid competition license (see
next item below).
How do I get a competition license?
If you are new to racing and want to join the fun, attend a certified
competition driver's school in your area. Once you have completed
their course, submit your certificate to a local racing association,
such as NASA, SCCA, VARA, HMSA, or a similar organization. They
will issue you a log book -- and you're good to go! Here are dates
of driver's schools being held this Spring; contact the issuing
organization for details:
Will
there be other events at Blackhawk that day?
Yes! The Ultimate Mini Challenge is part of Mini Meet West Meets
East, and Meet organizers are planning to make a day of it. Besides
the Mini Challenge, with multiple heats run throughout the day,
you can watch the Minis run in the SOLO Autocross event in
Blackhawk's parking lot, and join the fun with a full picnic.
Mini
Meet West Meets East takes place somewhere in the middle of the
US every fifth year, as a central meeting point for Mini enthusiasts
from all over the US and Canada. For more information about this
year's meet, visit their website at www.minimeet2004.com.
Will
there be a Mini Corral and parade laps at Blackhawk?
Yes!
Bring your Classic Mini or New MINI to the event, enjoy talking
to other Mini owners, and be part of the Parade Laps around the
track during lunchtime. Parade laps are a controlled tour of the
track behind a pace car; no passing or 'horseplay' please! Stay
tuned for instructions for signing up for the Mini Corral.
Is
camping available at Blackhawk?
Yes! The friendly folks at Blackhawk Farms are very accommodating.
Camping without hookups is FREE, any nights from Monday June 28
through Wednesday June 30 ... or you can stay through to the weekend
if you want. Electrical hookup only is available for $20 for three
nights. Coin-op showers are available.
